The Sealy Design
If she looks familiar, it’s because you may have seen her show Summer Home on the HGTV network.
What products or services do you offer?
Sealy Design offers a one-stop service which includes everything from one-time design consultations, preparing permit/construction drawings to choosing and ordering finishes and furnishings, or even designing your own custom furnishing or built-ins – and everything in between. Our large sample room is stocked with the latest and greatest selections to save our clients time and refine the search for quality finishes at fair prices. Many of these products are not available locally or at retail level, allowing us to offer our clients truly special finds.
Shameless plug: What’s unique about your service? Why should we come to you and not the shop/service down the street?
My background is unlike that of any other interior designer. With a father in the trades, I grew up around job sites and have a solid understanding of construction and site management. I also have formal education and work experience in psychology, business and interior design giving me a unique perspective on servicing clients in a practical and effective method to get the best end results. In fact, I was a homeowner before going back to school for design and remember the trials and tribulations of renovations without inside industry knowledge which I now love to bring to my clients.
Biz brag book
One of the things that is unique about Sealy Design is that we still work on projects big and small, residential and commercial. This diversity keeps our skills honed and allows us to take lessons learned from one environment and apply the benefits to another project. From flagship retail stores to kitchen renovations, the Sealy design process is applied in order to provide the best possible end result.
What inspired you to start your biz?
I knew from a young age that I wanted to be in this industry, but after some redirecting from my well-meaning parents I went off to University… twice. So after a stint in psychology and business and buying my first home and renovating it with my Dad I had an epiphany I knew I had to go back to school for interior design. Three months into school I had to take on clients in order to afford my home and school so by the time I graduated I had my own business. After all, necessity is the mother of invention.
What’s your favourite thing to do (outside of work)?
Spend time with friends and a family. Usually there will be a good meal, wine and music involved. If we are lucky, a bonfire, some guitars, some singing and belly laughs!
