Taylor Swift took home Artist of the Year, competing with Adele, Lady Gaga, Lil Wayne and Katy Perry.


The show opened up with Nicki Minaj and David Guetta, performing Turn Me On, then launching into Super Bass.


There weren’t many surprises for the night, except when Jennifer Lopez started of her performance feigning tears and forgetting her lyrics, which almost had us feeling sorry for her, but then in a blink of an eye she rips of her gown and becomes the J.LO we know – the consummate professional performer. The blatant promotion of Fiat was a little off-putting.

Favourite Male R&B/ Soul: Usher

Favourite R&B Album: Rihanna’s “Loud”

Favourite Female Soul/R&B Artist: Beyonce , who thanked her fans via video.

Favourite Country Band Duo / Group: Lady Antebellum, their second AMA, they won the same category last year.

Favourite Country Album: Taylor Swifts. “Speak Now”

Favourite Latin Music Artist: Jennifer Lopez

Special Award goes to Katy Perry for five number one songs from one album.

New Artist of the Year: Hot Chelle Rae
