Q&A: Alicia Keys, Angélique Kidjo and Stephen Lewis

The afternoon of the Hope Rising Gala to benefit the Stephen Lewis Foundation, musician-activists Keys, who heads up Keep A Child Alive, and Kidjo, who founded the Botanga Foundation, met alongside Lewis with selected members of the press to talk about their commitment to ending AIDS in Africa. With all the hugging and kissing going on among the three, it took a while to get the press meet going. Here’s a slice of the conversation.


Alicia, how do you all connect as activists?

Keys: We do the same work and we’re fighting for the same cause. Stephen Lewis and I have organizations that work together as partners. Angélique has always been a motivator of people, a person who sings about things that are going on, which is what I think artist and singers should be doing. Read more
