When I started an all-women’s rock band in 1978, I was convinced that a women’s outfit would top the charts within the next five years. But I thought it would be a heavy rock album that would make it to number one, not Beauty And The Beat, by popsters the Go-Go’s, led by Belinda Carlisle. The band’s music may have been a bit soft, but Carlisle did some hard living as a Go-Go then and later as a solo artist. She tells all about it in Lips Unsealed ($31, Crown), whose title refers to her band’s breakout hit, Our Lips Are Sealed. She signs copies at Indigo on Saturday (June 5). Read more
